While in Australia there are no universal dental coverage plans offered by Medicare, there are a number of options available to help cover the cost of dental treatment at Darwin Smiles.

For patients with an existing health fund membership

We accept all major health funds in Australia. After a short initial consultation to determine what work you require, we can quote you on your individual likely out-of-pocket costs, provided you bring your health fund membership costs.

Please, note that due to the variety of health funds and health plans available, it is impossible for us to give you a rebate quote over the phone, without having your insurance card available. We will only be able to offer a broad, approximate estimate of costs, as an examination and a treatment plan is required for a more precise quote.

For patients without a health fund membership

Once you have had an initial examination and a treatment plan with a precise quote is available to you, talk to our reception staff about deferred payment options we may be able to offer you.

For eligible children

At Darwin smiles, we help out by being a bulk-billing dental practice for child dental services, and we honour the benefits associated with the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS). Your eligibility for CDBS is determined by the government, however, if you are not certain whether you are eligible, our staff can help you out by checking with Medicare when you call or at the time of your appointment.

ZipMoney and ZipPay
Do you need help paying for treatment? A popular credit option in Australia, used to pay for dental treatment, is ZipPay or ZipMoney. An approved application for ZipPay typically offers a fairly low limit (usually around $1000 or less) and can be used anywhere. The credit limits for ZipMoney are higher ($1000+), however, you may only use them at approved locations, such as Darwin Smiles dental clinic.
Our clinic does not have any involvement with management of these two payment options. If you are interested in finding out more, please seek further information at

Once your Zip application is approved, you can simply use your Zip app in the clinic to pay for treatment. Where the payment amount exceeds $1000, our staff will also need to submit a claim on your behalf on the ZIP website on the day your treatment is performed.
For Territory Health Fund members

We are a Premier Provider for Territory Health Fund and offer THF members ‘No out-of-pocket’ expenses on specific check-up, scale, and clean items for all Extras policies, subject to available annual dental limits*. This offer is valid until 28 February 2023.

Also,  Territory Health Fund Members pay only $40 for bleaching gel and receive one free set of custom-made take-home tooth whitening trays*.  “Please note your dentist must firstly confirm that your mouth is healthy, and you can use your whitening gel safely”  

*Offers valid from 1 September 2022 - 28 February 2023. Available on all extras policies and subject to available annual dental limits

For ADF families

We recognise the service of the Australian Defence Force community and accept payments through ADF Family Health Program
